AWARDED THE KINDEST ELDER OF ITALY

Giacomo Mauceri was awarded the Premio alla Bontà Hazel Marie Cole for his deep devotion to his wife Salvatrice, who four years ago contracted Alzheimer's Disease. She started to forget things and could no longer recognize anyone with one exception, Giacomo.
Salvatrice is now 84 years old, she has lost her memory and her weight increases daily due to heavy medication. Giacomo is 90 years old and suffers from heart-disease, but looks after her with great tenderness and constancy. They have been married since July 1942 and last year they were blessed by the Holy Father on the occasion of their diamond-wedding.
Giacomo was a civil employee of the Ministry of Defence; for his faithful service to the State the President of the Republic conferred an honour on him.
Salvatrice was always with him. Giacomo now remembers: "She was a very good cook, I trusted her completely".
