A"KINDNESS AWARD" HAS BEEN BORN

To honour the memory of Hazel Marie Cole, who recently died, a Charity in her name has been created. Hazel was born in Southampton in England, she was an aeronautical engineer who worked in various countries. Aeromacchi, in Varese offered her a job to design parts of an aeroplanes in 1964, but in order to follow her future husband Aldo Pianciamore, she refused and changed career. She returned to University in England where she studied at the McMillan College in Bradford. She returned to Italy where she devoted her time to teaching and working at school with young people, dedicating her life to her family, to her house in Duino which she loved and helping quietly whoever needed help. In order to continue the kindness done by Hazel, a group of friends, her husband and her daughter, created the "Hazel Marie Cole Kindness Charity". The President is Mrs Etta Carignani, the Vicepresident is Donatella Pianciamore, the Treasurer is Anna Coslovich, Trustees are Jocelyn Slee from London, Rosaria Gori from Rome, Daniela Danieli Furlanis from Venice and Maria Masolo Santi from Verona. There are three main areas where the Charity will be presenting awards. The first is for kindness shown by children in the elementary school whose names are put forward by headmasters and teachers, co-operating with the association for "l'Alunno piu' buono d'italia", (the kindest child in ltaly). The second award is pocket money to students from underprivileged backgrounds who win scholarships. The students initially will be from the United World College of the Adriatic of Duino. The third award is money to young people who help elderly people who are not self- sufficient. The Trust will initially be co-operating with the DeBanfield Association a well known Charity in Trieste that does plenty of voluntary work for the elderly. The Charity aims at raising a fund that will be financially independent, allowing the capital to grow and reach a sum that can in the future distribute the return on the capital and not the capital itself. The first award will be officially presented on the 13th of July, Hazel's Birthday. lt will be given to a young student from Viterbo aged ten who has shown an "outstanding and spontaneous sense of solidarity, friendship and support to a fellow student in his class". (Simone was one of eight candědates suggested by the association "l'Alunno piu' buono d'Italia). The second and third award will be announced with the opening of the academic year of the United World College of the Adriatic and at a later date to be decided on by the DeBanfield Association.
