One of the winners of the 26th "Hazel Marie Cole Charity Award" comes from Caulonia. Kind child in Italy He will receive the cheque for one million lire because of his altruism

CAULONIA. Maria Timpano, Ilario Dominelli's mother, is deeply touched. Her son, a thirteen-year-old boy from Caulonia, together with Gabriele Gullo, 10 years old, and Silvia Paci, 11 years old, both from Agrigento, is the winner of the 26th edition of the "Hazel Marie Cole Charity Award" given in Trieste to the young students of the elementary and secondary schools. It is an appreciation for an exemplary story of generosity and solidarity that illuminates the everyday drab life which is often signed by indifference, competitiveness and formality. Three years ago, Ilario established a wonderful friendship with one of his schoolmates affected with progressive muscular dystrophy. With total devotion he decided to help his schoolmate not only with warmth and friendship, but also helping him with concrete gesture that allow the integration process of those who cannot follow times of "normality". "Nothing special" says Ilario's mother who describes her son as someone "so kind with everyone". She's happy and quite surprised for the general interest that her son's generous behaviour caused. She has another ten-year-old, Elio. She also says: "Every morning, Ilario waits for his schoolmate in front of the Secondary School of Caulonia to take him into the class. He does the same when school is over and every time that his friend needs to go to the toilet. It is normal for Ilario to do all these things: it is sufficient to look into his eyes to see how kind and altruist he is". The Arts teacher, Mrs Elsina Pugliese, together with the other teachers of the Secondary School, a separated section of Caulonia Marina, informed first the Foundation (which has its seat in Poli, near Rome, and whose main aim is to "increase the moral value of some students' charity gesture") of that "big-hearted" boy. Through educational and multidisciplinary interventions, it allows the disabled child who daily attends the Neurological Rehabilitation Operative Unit of Caulonia Marina to become part of the school. Together with the "L'alunno pił buono d'Italia" award, Ilario will receive, as well as the two other winners of Agrigento, one million lire. They will receive this money during the "L'alunno pił buono d'Italia" official proclamation that will take place in the next days in order to honour the memory of "Ignazio Salvo", a disabled student who died when he was nineteen-year-old and in the name of whom the Foundation is entitled.
